Rep. Mike Coffman has proposed legislation (HR 621) to eliminate the Selective Service System to save 24 million a year....a small price to pay for an "insurance policy" that ensures when there are multiple military conflicts, we have a system in place that supports our military and ensures our democracy.
Yes, many will say "there is no need for it....we don't need that anymore...there will never be another draft". And, to that I say: did you think we would ever be attacked on our own soil?
Point being, for 24 million a year to maintain registration and have contingent plans in place, I think it's a worth while investment....after all we spend about 100,000,000.00 on congressional salaries each year....
